Well, this past Saturday I scored a motor for my 'valved' 600 motor. Got a great deal and had some great weather. Saturday night I left the new motor in my truck and got a good night's rest. But come the next morning . . .
Ah, Fresh Sunday morning and some coffee and some tools and a desire to be riding again this season on my Suzuki.
My pal Greg came over before 10 am and found me working on tearing some old parts off of my old motor and placing them on the new one:

Next, we took a look at the old motor (yes, a 1/4 keg is a perfect height for motor work!):

Onto the bike that needs the engine. Boy is it light without a motor!

We were now left with, a dead motor, a empty bike and a good motor in the back of my jeep and Greg itching to try out some of his new tools:

We got the motor out and put it next to the willing bike:

Hrm? Now how to get that 180 lb. 100 hp motor into that tight space? Ratchet straps, blocks of wood and a jack and a shit load of cursing:

OK, onto a little bit of refreshing suds and even more cursing and heavy blunt objects (with ratchet straps on the pan and heads spanning the frame for drunken shop safety) --- But we got it in:

Now that Greg and I are done with the hard part (WHEW!) he gets to pose next to the motor bolted into my bike:

All the electrics were starting to hook up nicely:

The moment of truth (Gregs backs up waiting for explosion ;-) and she starts up after getting her some needed boost from a Jeep:

After that we had the tank on and I just put the seat on with no bolts and took for a spin around the block. No pic but nobody got hurt and I had a huge smile on my face.
So, 2003 is looking up! Enjoy and feel free to leave a comment.

Posted by: Greg at March 24, 2003 10:09 PMCool, I checked in NN 4.77 via Classic on my OS X machine and saw many isues, but not that one. I think I know what you are talking about.
Not to be a non-purist like I am at work, but this site will not support anything less than IE on OS 9 and above on all opertiong systems. All NN/Mozilla/Konqueror engines will be supported and behave similarly and are much more compliant to standards currently.
I have migrated many folks off of NN 4.x to at least NN6 (it move mail as well if you use NN mail client) so I suggest that as a web user being pro-active ;-)
At least I code to standards and not browsers. LOL
Appreciate the immense help yesterday and the browser check.
(posting form NN4.7 now)
Posted by: Erik Gilchrist at March 24, 2003 10:52 PMA man obsessed.
But hey, anthing that will make him less grouchy! :)
ha! Just kidding Erik!
Nice work!
So you mean to tell me you did that entire job w/out 1 piece of duct tape?! :oP
No Marie, no duct tape. I did however use a 25 lb. sledgehammer to 'persuade' some certail bits to fit just right ;-)
Posted by: Erik at March 25, 2003 09:21 AMI particularly like the front end stand, motor stand is good too.
Posted by: Mario at March 25, 2003 09:24 AMMario, yeah, don't tell the milk crate police ;-)
Posted by: Erik at March 25, 2003 10:32 AMGood job Honey. I opened this in IE5 because it looked like ---- in Netscape 4.7 - pix all ran together and overlapped the text.
Posted by: Judy at March 25, 2003 10:55 AMNICE BIKE!
Posted by: Luis Ballesteros at March 25, 2003 11:53 AMDude,
It's me....... The Pit Crew Slut. (hahahaha)
Nice Web Site.
What the heck is McKulla doing, riding bikes now?
You guys are too much.
Take Care,
Cindy
Erik--Nice job Pal. Just be sure to run it for a bit and then retorque all bolts and fasteners. Looks like you will be riding soon. Congratulations. Ride Safe.
Posted by: Bill Wood at March 25, 2003 02:55 PMThanks all for the feedback!!! I think I am going to set a sniffer to detect and re-direct NN 4.x users to an upgrade alert.
After all, NN4.7 is a dog and I cannot do some stuff I want and be that backwards compatible on a non paying site.
Appreciate it!
Posted by: Erik at March 25, 2003 06:20 PMGood Job Erik!
The Bike looks good (-:
I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed!! Let's try to leave the valves alone on this one. :) Looking forward to ripping up some high class back roads.
Congrats man,
Chavez.
P.S. How do I get the "Pit Crew Slut" to come work on my bike. :)
Chav,
RE: Pit Crew Slut. Ah, er, um.... you'll never know ;-)
