Wow, Gerry Curry out on the upper East Coast lives 5km from his 'nearest' broadband connection. He got permission to get cable in a nearby church, setup WiFi via arport and a directional antenna. Then he aimed it at his house. In a few steps, he was in business surfing at 11Mbps. Nice.
A great video of his setup is available here and it is well worth the look. He also has a page with pictures. Quite an impressive feat.
Hmmm. perhaps I should do this for my garage. I have a few old macs to choose from that can move out there to be just be Wi-Fi for my occasional "wrenching" sessions. Perhaps.

I have a WiFi card in the laptop, but it just sits there because it is a wireless monitor, a file server, web and mail server - among other things.
Damn! Need a new laptop.
