Unlike the Vietnam war era broadcasts ripe with a daily body count, ABC's NightLine with Ted Koppel seems to be holding fast against a hard fight against big media. What is at stake some consider inflammatory and sensationalism. Others call it a wake up. I fear most won't care.
I stand in the latter.
What Ted Koppel and ABC want to simply do is read off the names of the fallen troops that served in Iraq since we have declared war.
And how is that bad?
Well, tomorrow will be the anniversary of the declaration on the end of major fighting (a declaration called a war WON) from the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln.
As of that date, we in the US had lost 134 American soldiers. After that and till this posting date, a total of 730 since the war began. Some end to fighting.
How many more must die?
According to statistics thus far, let's even it off to 1000 US soldiers.
So yeah, let's go celebrate the ANNIVERSARY of 134 dead + the balance. And for those of you who don't want to break out the mental calculator the balance is 596.
Again, so much for major fighting. 730 is to 134. Yup. And folks complain that we don't see body bags. I don't care to see a body bag but damn, it might be nice to show the families that us in the USA as citzens care to watch their beloved come home and be respected at least by showing the coffins as they come HOME!
I say let Ted Koppel on NightLine on ABC April 30th, 2004 talk. SBGI, the right wing affiliate syndicator of ABC won't.
I think I might sleep better and have a better outlook on life. Let Ted speak. The families of the fallen have lost much as have familes of past wars. Let's not snub them.
