Well, was washing the car the other day. It was warm but I let the car air out first. On the pre-rinse the windscreen cracked.
Morristown MINI hooked me up with a loaner and are taking care of it now. Covered under warranty.
Boy, am I glad I got the Cooper S. They now say they only have a few left and will get no more for the rest of the year. Bummer. The one I was loaned is a regular Cooper (no supercharger, no bigger motor, no 6 speed manual, etc) and does it get s - l - o - w even before you turn on the A/C.
Can't wait to get mine back and thanks again to Morristown MINI, especially Ben, Brian and the whole team. Nice treatment.
P.S. Stay tuned for a September "End of Summer" meet. I hear it could be about 200 cars and I might be involved in one way or another. Off to check my maps of my favorite sportbike roads :)
Update: 5:00pm EDT
V-mail from Jason from MoTown MINI service. The windscreen that came in was broke. New one Monday.
Called to check. It's ok to keep the car. Left word for them to call me in the AM to see what's up.
grrrrr.
Update: 6.45pm EDT
Heard nothing today...
Well . . . .
Now it's May 25th. After the first weekend with the loaner (I own an S model, not some normal anemic MINI) I was called to return the loaner. No problem. Give me my fun car back and Morristown MINI can have their clown car back. A gutless wonder I would not ever let my mom drive. I gave it back after they told me that the one they had in stock was broke.
So, I got a piece of paper (like pulling teeth to get it too) to stuff in my glove box that will prove if I am pulled over for a broken windshield, any other windshield issues or because I would just like a damned freaking windshield to not break if I rinse the car, that will say that the damed windshield is broken. I know. The dealer knows. They'll call me....
So there ya go. National backorder for MINI Cooper Windshields.
WTF is mine? So much for what I know. I thought they had the windshield issue done with after the 2004 models came out.
I guess it still is an issue.
See why I record everything? All I did was squirt water from a garden hose on the car. There goes the windshield. Here goes the run around.
Posted by: Erik Gilchrist at May 25, 2004 09:09 PMWell, maybe I'll get off my ass and call the dealer. After all, it's been quite some time since I got the car back (unfixed) and a sheet of paper saying just that.
Christ. Morristown MINI of NJ said they'd call me when when the windshields come in.
Oh well. So much for trusting the service department there...
