IN A WORLD GONE MAD -- Beastie Boys for PEACE

Well, along with many other artists, the Beastie Boys have let loose an pro PEACE MP3.

Lyrics

MP3

Their site: Beastie Boys

"This song is not an anti-American or pro-Saddam Hussein statement. This is a statement against an unjustified war."
- Adam Horovitz (of the Beastie Boys)

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!

Lyrics:

In a world gone mad it’s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

Mirrors, smokescreens and lies
It’s not the politicians but their actions I despise
You and Saddam should kick it like back in the day
With the cocaine and Courvoisier
But you build more bombs as you get more bold
As your mid-life crisis war unfolds
All you want to do is take control
Now put that axis of evil bullshit on hold
Citizen rule number 2080
Politicians are shady
So people watch your back 'cause I think they smoke crack
I don’t doubt it look at how they act

In a world gone mad it’s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

First the ‘War On Terror’ now war on Iraq
We’re reaching a point where we can’t turn back
Let’s lose the guns and let’s lose the bombs
And stop the corporate contributions that they're built upon
Well I’ll be sleeping on your speeches ‘til I start to snore
‘Cause I won’t carry guns for an oil war
As-Salamu alaikum, wa alaikum assalam
Peace to the Middle East peace to Islam
Now don’t get us wrong ‘cause we love America
But that’s no reason to get hysterica
They’re layin’ on the syrup thick
We ain’t waffles we ain’t havin’ it

In a world gone mad it’s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

Now how many people must get killed?
For oil families pockets to get filled?
How many oil families get killed?
Not a damn one so what’s the deal?

It’s time to lead the way and de-escalate
Lose the weapons of mass destruction and the hate
Say ooh ah what’s the White House doin’?
Oh no! Say, what in tarnation have they got brewing??!!!!???!!
Well I’m not pro Bush and I’m not pro Saddam
We need these fools to remain calm
George Bush you’re looking like Zoolander
Trying to play tough for the camera
What am I on crazy pills? We’ve got to stop it
Get your hand out my grandma’s pocket
We need health care more than going to war
You think it’s democracy they’re fighting for?

In a world gone mad it’s hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the non-violent fight

My SOHO (Mac Studio)

Well, Many folks ask me how big my office is. How about I just show you my desk?

Read on . . .

Click for Full-Size

So, I have a few computers. The ones in the linked pic are (from left to right) PowerMac 8500/233mhz/OS X 10.1.5 - mail server, Dual 867 PowerMac as my primary workstation, iBook rev. a. 300Mhz webserver for PWPMO, PowerMac 9600 G3 as the family computer.

What is not shown is the rest of the Mac graveyard. Perhaps if I clean my office, I will get a Quicktime VR of it all. But since that is a non paying project, that will have to wait a bit.

Perhaps I should inventory my "stash" of macs. Later.

More on the wireless hunt phonewise

Well, in October 2002 I tried out a T68i. Neat little phone that could sync up perfectly with OS X, be used on ATT service that I have another phone on, and some really cool goodies like Bluetooth.

But . . . (read on)

And we knew there would be a but in this, right? Anyhow, the phone uses GSM (or GPRS, i have not the inclination to look up the technology but would appreciate a laymens term left in comments please) wireless technology. Neat, eh?

Yeah, except ATT and this new tech are all new. This is a worldwide standard, but in the US the dominant players are running TDMA or CDMA. So this GSM crap might be great globally but utterly useless in my house, let alone the area I live in.

Now this was October, 2003. I figured since it is now March 2003 I would see when my contract on my current plan with ATT is up because I really want the Bluetooth and other features of the T68i. I call 611 on my battered StarTac (AKA: free!) and talk with a great rep who says coverage should not be a problem and I may have gotten a bad phone. OK, I'll agree to that train of thought for the moment. I got one of the first ones that would work with ATT.

Too bad I sent it back for coverage problems. Cool phone though.
Again, we talked about the coverage and she looked up my record and saw no record of a return of the first T68i. Aw shidt ;-)

So, they will not quote me a price but are getting on to see what is up with the phone I returned (and no GSM service is on my plan now! - just TDMA) and then they may give me a new phone for free.

I say free because I can get it free from T-mobile via Amazon.

One hopes to be upbeat for now ;-)

Motor Install Saga (with PICS)

Well, this past Saturday I scored a motor for my 'valved' 600 motor. Got a great deal and had some great weather. Saturday night I left the new motor in my truck and got a good night's rest. But come the next morning . . .

(read on)

Ah, Fresh Sunday morning and some coffee and some tools and a desire to be riding again this season on my Suzuki.

My pal Greg came over before 10 am and found me working on tearing some old parts off of my old motor and placing them on the new one:

Next, we took a look at the old motor (yes, a 1/4 keg is a perfect height for motor work!):

Onto the bike that needs the engine. Boy is it light without a motor!

We were now left with, a dead motor, a empty bike and a good motor in the back of my jeep and Greg itching to try out some of his new tools:

We got the motor out and put it next to the willing bike:

Hrm? Now how to get that 180 lb. 100 hp motor into that tight space? Ratchet straps, blocks of wood and a jack and a shit load of cursing:

OK, onto a little bit of refreshing suds and even more cursing and heavy blunt objects (with ratchet straps on the pan and heads spanning the frame for drunken shop safety) --- But we got it in:

Now that Greg and I are done with the hard part (WHEW!) he gets to pose next to the motor bolted into my bike:

All the electrics were starting to hook up nicely:

The moment of truth (Gregs backs up waiting for explosion ;-) and she starts up after getting her some needed boost from a Jeep:

After that we had the tank on and I just put the seat on with no bolts and took for a spin around the block. No pic but nobody got hurt and I had a huge smile on my face.

So, 2003 is looking up! Enjoy and feel free to leave a comment.

2001 bike, 2002 motor. 2003 is a GO!

Well, out in PA at Tricked Out Cycles I got my new motor out of this bike.

Well, not new but out of a wrecked 2002 bike. She ran fine on the test start cold and valves seemed fine or at least not ready to explode. Valves on current Gix6's are fragile. Ask me how I know. Beter yet, please ask Suzuki USA. This will be the last Suzuki I think I will own. oh well... I love the bike when it runs great ;-)

So I helped them yank the motor out, tossed in the back of my truck and got it home. Great folks to deal with. Chris and Bob were kind and courteous and just plain no BS and hell, some of the stuff they had there was super sweet. I am not a flashy sportbike rider, but some of it made me drool.

Anyhow, here is the bike it came out of -- I really hate the color but the engine color is the same:

Waging peace. Put a light in your window.

Dear MoveOn supporter,

It now appears that a war may be very close. The Bush
administration has abandoned the diplomatic process at the
United Nations. The United Nations has begun pulling its
inspectors out of Iraq. President Bush has given Saddam
Hussein 48 hours to leave Iraq or face war. This is a very
sad day.

Dear MoveOn supporter,

It now appears that a war may be very close. The Bush
administration has abandoned the diplomatic process at the
United Nations. The United Nations has begun pulling its
inspectors out of Iraq. President Bush has given Saddam
Hussein 48 hours to leave Iraq or face war. This is a very
sad day.

We must remember in this dark moment that we have come a long
way. By working for peace around the globe, millions of
people have successfully challenged the justness of this war
on a world stage. We have persuaded governments to heed their
peoples' call to peace, and helped the United Nations maintain
its integrity. We all have been part of a historic
mobilization of the citizens of the globe. It will change
everything. And in the end, we will win.

We will continue waging peace, even if war comes. We have
joined together to articulate a vision of how the world should
be -- of how nations should treat each other, of how we can
collectively deal with threats to our security.

One simple way to show your continued commitment to this
vision is to put a light in your window. It could be a
Christmas string or candle, a light bulb, or a lantern. It's
an easy way to keep the light of reason and hope burning, to
let others know that they are not alone, and to show the way
home to the young men and women who are on their way to Iraq.

We'd like to keep a list of the places and people who are
joining in this simple act. Please sign up now at:

On Sunday, people came together in thousands of towns and
villages around the world -- a truly global vigil for peace.
The vigils came in all shapes and sizes. There were vigils
with ten people and vigils with thousands. There were vigils
in homes, in churches, and in open fields. People joined
together to share their commitment to making a better world.

For some amazing pictures of the vigils around the world, go
to:

http://www.moveon.org/vigil/

The Global Vigil was made possible by the efforts of thousands
of volunteers. Some worked tirelessly to make modest but
important vigils happen in small towns and villages. Others
merely chose a location for a vigil on our Web site and handed
out extra candles as hundreds of strangers showed up. Several
dedicated volunteers staffing the MoveOn help desk worked
countless hours answering questions and solving problems. All
of us give our most heartfelt thanks to these fantastic
volunteers for their good spirits during such an intense
project.

Here are a few of the thousands of reports we've seen from
vigil coordinators. They give a real sense of the scale and
power of this event.

"We are planning to take the fire of one of the candle and
[keep it burning], as a symbol of the light of the conscience
of humanity."
--Fabian Freire, Barcelona, Spain, over 100 attended

"The calm, moon-lit night provided an incredibly beautiful
setting where persons could visualize the devastation a shock
and awe attack would bring to their beloved city."
--Chester L Guinn, Des Moines, United States, over 1,000
attended.

"Tonight, at 7, I was alone with my candle on the place of the
village, when an old lady, Misses Wery arrived walking with
her stick. So old, limping and desiring strongly to say "No
war". We ended up with more than 20 people."
--Jacqueline Beraud, France (no village name)

"It is so important for the world to realise that most
Americans are, like the rest of the world's people,
peace-loving, fair-minded and good-hearted people."
--Al Harris, Cairns, Australia, more than 200 people

"People were lining the edge of the fountain, holding candles
and signs well before 7pm, and many stayed until 9pm even
10pm, for live coverage on local news channels. Drivers of
cars, even metro busses, were honking wildly with fingers in
peace signs out their windows."
--Kayte (last name not given), Houston, United States, over
1,000 people

"We had 40 participants attend, all ages. People spoke about
peace; one participant with her native drum led us in a chant,
'Peace in our minds, peace in our homes, peace in the world,'
we sang. All in all it was a great success. We plan to have a
vigil next Sunday as well, same time, same place."
--Joyce Lachance, Musquodoboit Harbour, Canada

No one has ever said that waging peace is easy. It may take
days, or months, or years. But moving forward together, we
will make history.

Thank you for all you do,

Sincerely,
--Carrie, Eli, Joan, Peter, Wes, and Zack
